2020 Virtual Summer Camp Registration is now open!

IMPORTANT UPDATE:
With moving to virtual delivery and our very limited capacity, unfortunately, this year we are only able to offer camps for youth in grades 4-6 this summer. We had to make the difficult decision to limit the grade offerings, as we wanted to ensure that what we offered is still challenging and meaningful. We are working on this and are hoping to provide updated weekend camps for grades 2-3 and 7-9 in the Fall.

Thank you for your kindness and understanding.

Frequently Asked Questions – Summer 2020

1. If I register my youth in camp, can their younger sibling participate too?
We will only be sending enough materials for one camper to participate per registration. If they are going into grades 4-7 next year, we recommend that you register them as well so that they will get their own kit! If they are outside that grade range unfortunately they will not be able to participate this year.

2. What happens if my materials don’t arrive?
If you gave us the correct shipping address, and your materials failed to arrive, you must let us know ASAP! We will overnight the kit and refund you for the day missed. If you shipping address if incorrect during registration, unfortunately, you will not be refunded for the days missed, and there will be a surcharge for the overnight shipment. We are responsible for getting you your materials, you are responsible for ensuring we have the correct mailing address.

3. How much supervision do I need to provide for my youth?
We are planning for your campers to be able to do these activities with minimal supervision. With that being said we do recognise the diverse nature of the youth who attend our programming, and some may need more help than others. You know your camper best. While you don’t need to be sitting at the table with them while they are working, you need to be present so that if they need a hand you can assist them. Also, for legal & safety purposes, a responsible adult must be on-site while we are working with your camper(s).

4. Is there financial assistance this year?
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer bursaries for our camp programming this summer, but no fear! We have been working on a live-streamed YouTube series: The Couch Potato Lab for your scientists to participate with us in STEM at home! Currently, there are 13 episodes for you to view on our YouTube Channel, with more coming soon!

5. Is there any chance that there will be in-person camps announced later in the summer?
From EYES, unfortunately, no. The University has announced that there will be no in-person classes this summer- meaning that it is unlikely campus will open to summer camps. While this may not hold true for other programs, we need to start preparing for this summer now to ensure that we are still delivering the high-quality programming that you have come to love and expect! We are very excited to approach this new model, and we hope that in the future we can combine it with our in-person camps to reach more youth in Saskatchewan!

2020 EYES Camp Theme Days
SaskScience 2.0Zoology DayTech Leaders#ThrowbackThursday
Saskatchewan is full of scientific wonders, from Potash mining tot he fish in our lakes. On this theme day, we will learn about all things Saskatchewan! It is important that we understand the land we walk on and the air we breatheZoology: a branch of biology that studies all things animal! How they walk, why they have fur and where they live! Here we will explore all things animal – and don’t forget the dissection!!Today, it can be said that we are living in the future. Everyday technology continues to advance, we must keep up! We will explore coding and robotics, and delve into all things digital. Let’s go back in time and explore the scientific discoveries that lead to where we are today. Edison, Tesla, Marie Curie – all these folks paved the way for science as we know it!
Enrollment Confirmation

Children who are enrolled in their week of choice will receive a confirmation of enrollment by email. Applications for children who are requesting financial assistance will require a longer processing period. If the week you request is full, we will contact you regarding alternate dates. A waiting list will also be prepared and administered on a first come first, serve basis.

Financial Assistance

Due to the loss of in-person camps, we are unable to offer financial assistance this summer. But no fear! We have been working hard to ensure that we can still work together. We have been producing an at home LIVE YouTube series. For more information, please check out The Couch Potato Lab!

All Girls

All Girls camp is open too queer, non-binary, transgender or 2 spirit youth.

The EYES All Girls Program is a day camp at the University of Regina for girls who will be entering grades 4 to 9 this fall. It mirrors our EYES camp program except your group is made up of all-female staff and campers. We also try to bring in a female mentor who works within science or engineering.

EYES Camp provides hands-on activities within science, engineering and technology. The activities are based on different theme days shown below. For instance, we would have a day dedicated to learning about Canadian science for our Canada theme day.

* No Camp July 1st or August 3rd

Codemakers (Grades 4 – 6)

In this program, you will have mapped out lessons to help introduce to the software and hardware we will be working with. You will get a taste of everything! From 3D Printing and designs to Robots and coding. You will get to dip your toes in a multitude of tech-related topics. It will be a balance between instruction, self-development and challenges. **Codemakers Grade 4-6 will be offered every week. If you register for 2 weeks of Codemakers, you will participate in the same activities twice!** If you are interested in registering for two weeks of camp this summer, we recommend choosing one week of the EYES Camp program and one week of the E-Design Codemakers program.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop your photo editing skills
  • Design video games
  • Create your own web pages
  • Program your own apps
  • Build Arduinos
  • Use a Raspberry Pi
  • And much much more!

Codemakers (Grade 7 – 9)

We are working on this and are hoping to provide updated weekend camps for grades 2-3 and 7-9 in the Fall.

Thank you for your kindness and understanding.

This year the 7 – 9 program has EXPANDED. Campers will have access to tutorials but the program is self-directed with fewer instructor lead activities. With a project-based approach, you choose what you want to work on for the week! The 7 -9 program will be offered every 2nd week following the same curriculum!

In the Codemakers 7-9 program, campers will be building and coding their own video games, computer programs, computer animations, robots, and beyond! They will explore the possibilities of both software and hardware engineering which will be examined through the use of Arduino, Processing, Vex Robotics, Game Maker, Raspberry Pi, and more! We want to help campers find the intersection between their passion and programming. If you like music, you can use code to write your own songs. If you like art, you can generate your own artwork using code.

EYES Camp is a day camp at the University of Regina for youth who will be entering grades 4 to 6 this fall.

EYES Camp provides hands-on activities within science, engineering and technology. Groups are separated by age and explore a theme day’s subject through a variety of fun-filled experiences. For instance, we would have a day dedicated to learning about density for the Density theme day. I can tell you now that we are going to have both a dissection and will build Lego robots. Otherwise, the staff will develop the curriculum.

Important Information for previous campers:

In the past, we had two theme weeks of camp for Grades 4 – 9.  We have expanded our E-Design Codemakers program to encompass the same age range and thus have reduced EYES Camp to have only one theme week.  If you register for 2 weeks of EYES, you will participate in the same activities twice!  If you are interested in registering for two weeks of camp this summer, we recommend choosing one week of the EYES Camp program and one week of the E-Design Codemakers program.
