Shocking Static Electricity Tricks

#FridayFunday

Did you tune in to the “Opposites Attract” episode of the Couch Potato Lab? We did some cool tricks with static electricity such as bending water and separating salt and pepper. When two materials rub against each other, there is a transfer of electrons from one object to another. For example, you can stick a balloon to your head when you rub the balloon against your head! Why? Hair has a tendency to lose electrons, making it positively charged. While the balloon has a tendency to gain the hair’s electrons when you rub it against your head, thus making it negatively charged. This reaction causes static electricity and it all deals with how opposite charges attract! Try out these cool science static electricity tricks!
